Professional News
First, I have some exciting news! I signed a project based contract with Tina P. Schwartz, founder of the Purcell Agency. Tina is interested in an Early Reader series I developed and will start pitching them to publishers this month. Thank you to my critique partner Melanie for fostering that relationship and her massive amount of help!
Personal News
This week I said goodbye to my angel cat Clark. I wasn’t ready, but he told me he was. It was an honor being his mom. Clark was with our family for 15 years. He moved house 5 times, saw my husband and I dating, engaged, and married. He and I did everything together. We grew up together. He’s been a (mostly) sweet brother to Brinkley, Lewis, Moe, Neo and Toula. But he really loved Lewis. I first saw Lewis and Clark at a shelter in Tennessee where they were the only two left from their litter. They were both playing and while I was falling in love, Clark saw a fly. And reader, he ate that fly. He chewed it while making eye contact. It was disgusting. I knew right then he would be a sensational cat. Or at the very least, reduce the bug population in our house.
We went to adopt one cat and ended up taking home two. And boy oh boy am I glad we did. Lewis and Clark gave us a million laughs and lots of headaches. They were actually really bad kittens. Once Lewis jumped out of the window of our two story duplex. I’m pretty sure Clark put him up to it. But of course my rose tinted glasses are firmly on at this point and I only remember the cute stuff. I loved cuddling them both, but they mostly loved cuddling with each other.
When Lewis passed away Clark wasn’t well for a time. But he learned to be on his own and turned to his mom and dad for extra love. Which we happily obliged. Every morning Clark would wake me up by biting me and pulling my covers off. Sometimes he would stomp on my hair or scream at me if he felt I needed extra motivation. I’m going to miss it. Cause I’m a sucker. Clark liked to sing opera right after breakfast. He sang in each room, I assume, to test out the acoustics. I’m going to miss his songs. Clark hadn’t ever seen the Real Housewives, but in his later years he really embodied their dramatics. He loved slapping the dogs and sometimes our guests. We hid all the martini glasses for fear of drinks thrown in our faces.
He was the last of our OG crew. Saying goodbye to him broke my heart. He’s going to be missed. He was an excellent cat and my baby.
